Claudia Manchanda (10/12/1970 – 04/03/2025)

“Radical Herbalist, Plant Lover, Grand Parent, Anti-capitalist”

Claudia helped to edit and shape Issue 2 of Wort and in the process the direction of the project. She also contributed this article.

It articulates the importance of hope as a practice of resistance through the stories of two beloved medicinal trees: the Ginkgo and the Olive. That Claudia, having been living with breast cancer for over a decade, chose hope as the theme of this piece is characteristic of her relentless radical commitment to life and/as resistance.

Amongst the quotes chosen for the piece is this one:

You are only given

One life

So cherish this moment

Cherish this day

Be kind to others

Be kind to yourself

Hasujiku Tanaka, who survived 3.4 km from the epicentre of the genocidal blast at Hiroshima.
