About No Borders Herbal:
Rooted in mutual aid and solidarity, this is a self-organized project stemming from the need to create autonomous healthcare networks within our regions and across borders. Far from wanting to fill the gaps of a rotting system, we are choosing to show up for each other, asserting our freedom of movement while fighting state violence in all its forms.
United by our kinship for plants and hatred for Fortress Europe, this project aims to launch a self-production of herbal medicines for first aid and prevention, to be distributed among people on the move on the so-called ‘Balkan route’.
Due to both the physical and psychological hardship of the journey, as well as the violence systemically executed by border police across the continent, people on the move are often in need of medical care. However, the barriers they face are many and never unintentional. In fact, they are put in place by a racist regime designed to break people’s spirits and bodies: from a severe lack of doctors in open camps (and detention centres), to extremely limited treatment options in public hospitals. In many countries, those without documents are denied access altogether. For some, going to a hospital can trigger detention and subsequent deportation. Even when healthcare is technically available, access is also restricted by racial discrimination, language barriers, and other systemic issues.
No Borders Herbals operates from a principle of harm reduction. The project provides preventive medicine, self-care support, and first-aid supplies to reduce the risk of untreated illnesses and injuries.
